Dubai Ranks Among Top Five for Economic Opportunities
Boston Consulting Group’s Cities of Choice 4.0 report assessed 80 cities across five areas: economic opportunities, livability, social capital, engagement with governments and speed of change.
Dubai secured fifth place globally for economic opportunities, supported by high household incomes, positive business sentiment and a strong international corporate presence. Residents also reported above-average confidence in career development and financial accessibility.
BCG found that both Dubai and Abu Dhabi performed above the global average across nearly every resident-experience measure assessed in the study.
Strong Performance for Social Capital and Government Engagement
Dubai ranked 12th globally for social capital, the highest position among Middle Eastern cities included in the study. Within the category, the city ranked first worldwide for social connections, with residents reporting high levels of meeting friends, community participation and social generosity.
Dubai also placed ninth globally for engagement with governments, a category that considers areas including digital public services and resident satisfaction with government delivery. BCG said the UAE was among the highest-performing markets globally in this area and substantially ahead of the average across the cities assessed.
Dubai Leads for International Visitor Spending
Dubai recorded the highest inbound visitor spending among all 80 cities included in the research. It was also one of only two cities, alongside Istanbul, identified as significantly outperforming peers for international flight connectivity.
BCG highlighted the increasing combination of business and leisure travel, identifying Dubai as one of the major beneficiaries of the trend. The findings add another dimension to the city’s performance in the study, alongside its rankings for economic opportunity, social capital and government engagement.
